Frequently asked questions

camo hydrodipped rifle magazine, rails, grip, buttstock

How durable is water transfer printing?

We like to let our product speak for itself. Some of our largest clients are automotive and hunting equipment manufacturers who demand the highest standards for quality and durability. Many parts that come through our shop spend the majority of their time in direct exposure to the elements, such as boat instrument panels, rifle stocks, football helmets, and ATV/UTV parts. All products we use throughout the process are high quality automotive grade, designed to withstand nature and time.

What types of items can printed?

A wide variety of flat or 3-D shapes and manufacturing materials (plastics, metals, etc.) can be printed. Basically, if it can get wet, it can be hydrodipped!

How scratch resistant is the final product?

The clear acrylic recommended is the same as that used on auto exteriors. We use only high quality automotive grade clear coats.

Do I need to disassemble my item(s) before sending to Applied Hydrographics?

Yes. Before shipping/dropping your items off to us for hydrographic printing, you or a professional should break it down, so only the items being hydrodipped are delivered to us.

How long does the process take?

Usually, you need to allow up to two weeks from the time you drop your items off. In certain circumstances, we can accommodate rush orders, for an extra charge. In some cases, we may need your items slightly longer due to the complexity of the job, custom paint mixing, and ordering a custom print.
